Lean Green DAD™ Radio

Marc and Kim Ramirez started out as a young passionate couple. Kim with her vegetarianism and Marc with his football...NCAA Michigan Wolverines football to be exact! But somewhere along the way of this amazing couple’s relationship, they got derailed in terms of their nutrition. Marc had a family history of diabetes and heart disease and Kim started having severe headaches when she stepped away from her vegetarian diet during her college days. Then something significant happened to them. Mark was headed down a dark road of medications and pain when the couple decided to take a movie off the shelf that someone had recommended they watch for a while. That movie was Forks Over Knives. Today, Marc and Kim make up the two-person team called Chickpea and Bean. Together they have seen revolutionary changes to their life by switching to a whole food, plant-based diet. Enjoy the show!

Adam Sud (pronounced like a soap sud) is addicted to a plant-based lifestyle. This is the first time he has actually been proud to associate himself with addiction. Back in 2013, Adam was addicted to fast food and Adderall, a drug that is often prescribed for those dealing with ADHD in their lives. Adam describes the drug as a molecule away from meth, which is pretty scary. Back then, Adam looked at himself in the mirror and decided that he was "sick and tired of being sick and tired" and switched to a plant-based lifestyle. The plant-based food that he ate worked hand in hand with his recovery and rehabilitation. Today, Adam works with other individuals who might be dealing with addiction in their life and helps them to not only recover but to prevent relapse by incorporating a plant-based diet into their recovery plan.

Today’s episode is with Decio Lopes. Decio works with Orlando City Soccer and happens to be the Director of an amazing film that premiered in 2015 at a film festival here in Orlando called “Making History.” I live in Orlando as most of you know and am a big fan of Orlando City Soccer, so I had to have Decio on the show. I reached out to him for an interview and he originally had to turn me down because he did not feel 100% comfortable speaking with me in English, so I reached back out again with my good friend Natalia, who is bilingual and happens to be the biggest Orlando City fan in all of Central Florida. Her and her husband have been to all the games and have been season ticket holders since day one. These people bleed purple folks! So with Natalia on board to do the interview for me in Spanish, Decio agreed to talk with me. So as you might guess, today’s podcast is completely in Spanish, but if you visit leangreendad.com in the podcast section, you can find a full transcript of the interview in English, so check it out if English is your first language. It was an awesome interview and he is a great man. Now back to the film. As I said, the film is called Making History and it is a documentary about this amazing football club’s journey to the MLS and follows them through their very first MLS game. So without further ado, here is my interview, well Natalia’s interview….with Decio Lopes from orlando city soccer.

Geoffrey Palmer is a vegan bodybuilder. Sometimes those two words (vegan and bodybuilder) don't seem like they go together since most of America thinks we get our protein from meat. Geoff has been doing this for 31 years and was vegan before it was "cool" to be vegan. With a degree in biopsychology and a passion for fitness, Geoff has created and trademarked some of the best muscle-promoting products on the market. He is the CEO and Founder of the Clean Machine line of products. The great thing about all of his products is that they are made from plants and make your body more efficient at digesting and using protein. Imagine having to drink less protein, but making it more efficient with essential digestive enzymes your body needs to do the work that it needs to do in order to optimize your nutrition! I learned more talking to Geoff than I have learned in quite a while on protein, how it works in the body and how to most effectively promote the growth of strong muscle tissue. Enjoy!

Today’s guest is Dr. Julian Maha, the Founder of one of the newest and best-reviewed non-profits in the United States, KultureCity. What does it mean exactly to be a best-reviewed non-profit? Every dollar and every experience that KultureCity raises or provides it tracked and directly related to the impact they have on serving their mission. They have already been recognized by Bill Gates and Microsoft as one of the top ten non-profits in the nation and at the time of this recording have impacted over 15,000 lives of those living with autism. Their mission is to help create a world where all individuals with autism and their families can be accepted and treated equally. I’m really excited for you to hear this podcast and challenge you to think while you're listening to Julian speak. What is the difference between sympathy and empathy? Which one do you have for those living with autism? If you can empathize, you can understand what someone with autism is going through because you have direct experience with it. If you can sympathize, you can still feel strongly for an individual and their family living with autism, but might not have direct experience with it. Whichever one you fall into, it is important to feel one of these two towards an individual or family living with autism, as it is truly the best way to live a life of compassion and understanding. Your compassion will help organizations like KultureCity be one step closer to world-wide acceptance of this often invisible disability. I hope you enjoy the show!
